Instagram: it is a most popular photo sharing on ios devices, and it has been released for Android devices recently Instagram for Android is now available for download – less than a month after it was given a “coming very soon” status from its founders.

Android users had been calling for developer to release an Android version of the app for some time and while it has been on the cards for some time, it was never quite known when it would launch.

The app gives you access to a range of filters including a number of retro filters which are among the most popular on the iOS device. You can share your photo stream with friends and vice versa and as you would expect there is a lot of social media integration with the usual suspects of Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and FourSquare available and Instagram says support for Flickr is coming very soon.

The app also backs up your photos, so that you can access them on a number of devices.

The app is available now from the Google Play Store for free.

Now that Apple has launched its most recent iPad, anticipation is turning toward the company’s next-generation iPhone.

Release date expectations for the device, which is rumored to be called the iPhone 5, fluctuate between summer and fall.

Although no information has been confirmed, indications point to a June release date, more specifically June 15.

On June the weeklong unspecified event runs from June 11 through 15, and the rumor mill is already churning.

Apple’s next operating system, said to be called iOS 6, is speculated for a June 11 rollout, strengthening expectations that the company will turn around and surprise audiences with its next smartphone as well.

The WWDC has been the release platform for new Apple operating systems for the past four years, according to the iOS 6 rumours.

This combined with the recent hiring spree at Foxconn, where more than 200,000 workers were recruited, makes it plausible that the next-generation device will debut in June. Texas Instruments has also been producing power chips, indicating that production is well under way.

Details about the upcoming phone’s features have been leaked in the past couple of weeks, with a report on March 21 revealing that Apple had ordered 4.6-inch screens for the product. But two days later, iMore reported that the phone will retain its current 3.5-inch size.

The gadget is expected to support 4G LTE technology as well.

Samsung is well known for creating some of the best top-tier smart phones, but it also has developed a reputation for building out-of-the-ordinary mobile gadgets as well. Now Samsung is ready to test another creation.

The Samsung Galaxy Note, a 5.3-inch hybrid phone-tablet device, has wowed several tech journalists, although there are plenty of other reporters who are not fans of the untraditional mobile device.

Samsung is reportedly pursuing a tiny, 2.8-inch display Android phone, which recently cleared the FCC. The phone “Galaxy Pocket” will run on Google’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system.

The Samsung Galaxy Pocket packs a decent punch at 832 MHz processor and 3GB of internal storage. Another nice feature is the fact that the phone will include a small camera on the back. The camera is only 2 megapixels according to Engadget, which is far below other Samsung Android-based smart phones, but for simple picture-taking, this could actually be a great deal.

Endadget is also reporting that AT&T will likely be the first to carry the phone, though the tech blog warns “anything is possible,” so the phone could eventually make its way to other carriers.

There are no details on pricing at this time, but because it’s such a small-size phone, it’s fair to assume that it will be brought out at an entry-level price.

A faster, upgraded version of Aakash tablet — touted to be the world’s cheapest — would be launched in April without any increase in price, Human Resources Development Minister Kapil Sibal said.

Sibal said during Question Hour in Lok Sabha that Datawind will supply one lakh high speed tablets with a longer battery life and better screen.

“These higher specifications which include 700 MHz Cortex A8 processor, 3200mAH battery with three-hour usage time and a capacitative touchscreen have been necessitated to overcome the initial difficulties observed in the devices,” he said.

The first phase of one lakh tablets were targeted for students in higher technical education institutions so as to further ascertain technical feedback on its operation and usability, the minister said.

To demands from members for extending the distribution of tablets to school students, Sibal said the same would be made available when the proposed National Mission of Education through ICT for Schools got necessary funds.

He said once the production capacities are built up, norms for distribution with an aim to prioritise empowerment of students, especially from disadvantaged and marginalised sections of society, through this low cost access-cum computing device would get developed.

Sony Mobile Communications has expanded its Xperia smartphone lineup with the unveiling of Xperia sola. Running on Android 2.3 operating system (with promised upgrade to Android 4.0), Xperia sola boasts of a 3.7 inch Reality display, 1GHz dual core processor and a 5-megapixel camera.

Just like the Xperia S, sola is NFC-enabled and comes with two SmartTags. These SmartTags allows users to change the settings of their phone simply by touching.

The company has introduced a new technology called Floating Touch navigation that lets users navigate the web by hovering their finger above the screen so it acts like a moving curser, without actually having to touch the screen. Once the desired link is found it can be highlighted and a simple tap will load the page.

Featuring the Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, Xperia sola comes with SmartTags, which allow the consumer to instantly change the smartphone settings to a pre-defined set by simply touching them to the phone. Sony sola comes in black, white and red colurs and is expected to be launched globally by the middle of the year.

Sony Xperia sola specifications:

* Floating touch navigation * NFC enabled and Xperia SmartTags * 3.7″ Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine * 1GHz dual core processor * xLOUD and 3D surround sound audio technology * Direct access to Sony Entertainment Network with pre-installed video and music unlimited

Reliance on Monday launched the CDMA Tab, a 7-inch version of its GSM tablet that hit the market last year. The tablet has a capacitive screen and runs Android 2.3 (Gingerbread).

Reliance said the tablet would be supported by the company’s CDMA network across 22 circles in over 1000 towns in the country. The device is priced at Rs 12,999.

In terms of design and hardware, the CDMA Tab is similar to the device Reliance had launched last year. It has 512 MB RAM, supports micro SD card, weighs just 397 grams and features a 2MP rear camera. We had reviewed the Reliance 3G Tab last year. You can read the review here.

Of course, in the last few months tablet market has changed a bit. The price cut on BlackBerry Playbook – the basic model is still selling for around Rs 15,000 at online stores – means that most of the cheap tablets have lost the value preposition that they earlier enjoyed.

“Having redefined the tablet market in the country last year with the launch of Reliance 3G Tab, we are yet again the first to introduce the country’s first CDMA Tab. With the rapid increase in data consumption in India, the launch of the CDMA Tab is another step to carry forward our mission of wire-free India,” said Sanjay Behl, group head (brand & marketing) at Reliance Communications Limited.

Reliance said the new tablet is pre-loaded with 15 popular applications to provide information services (browsing, navigation maps and search), communication services ( email, blog, SMS, and MMS), entertainment services (music, video, and games), and social networking services ( Facebook). Additionally, access to thousands of applications is provided through the Android Market, it said.
